Ch’iu was a professional lacquer artisan before he met Chou Ch’en. Under Chou’s instruction, Ch’iu gradually became well-known in painting circles. He excelled in many painting genres including landscape, bird and flower, and animal paintings. In the forest, frightened animals flee from the hunters. A tiger and boar are badly wounded by arrows. The excitement of the hunters can be seen in their facial expressions. The painter’s signature appears at the end of the handscroll, but it seems dubious. The painting was probably done by a later artist.
